SEMINAR OVERVIEW
The Green Oak Charter Township Police Department invites MI law enforcement agencies to a 2-day event.
January 22-23 2024
8:00am – 4:00pm
Green Oak Charter Township PD
940 Whitmore Lake Rd. Brighton, MI 48116
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who manages criminal and administrative records
Day 1
The morning topic will examine how to determine the period for which records must be kept, in what format, when they can be destroyed, and what the legal requirements are for releasing or withholding records from the public. You will also learn a modernized approach to managing agency files both electronically and those which are still on paper.
In this afternoon session, attendees will learn the legal issues that stem from inadequate quality control, planning, record backlogs, training, policies and flawed crime data. You will also gain insight into these risks, their elimination, and participate in strategic risk analysis and prevention through the training.
Day 2
In the morning session, attendees will learn how to identify and redact information from police reports, audio, video, juvenile, and traffic records following state law. You will also learn which exemptions may apply beyond the closure of the case.
In this afternoon session, attendees will learn legal guidelines for sealing and expunging records and master effective techniques for handling court orders. While the course doesn’t delve into agency-specific procedures due to system variability and policy differences, it offers valuable understandings of the significance and content of these court orders.
