CASE MANAGEMENT

In this morning session, you’ll learn what case management really is and how it affects your NIBRS data, clearance rates, records retention periods, and the procedures needed to keep case status and dispositions correct throughout the course of an investigation and prosecution.

Topics Included:

  • The difference between status and disposition options in your RMS, how they function, and when should they be changed
  • Who should be authorized to change the status of a case
  • How and when supplements should be submitted
  • Clearing cases vs. offenses
  • The importance of court dispositions and case status
  • Ensuring communication between agencies and the judicial system in your area to provide for proper case management

STAFFING ANALYSIS

In this afternoon session, you’ll learn the crucial skills needed to assess personnel requirements for your Records Unit effectively. Through a detailed analysis of work tasks and time measurements, this data-driven approach will uncover the precise staffing needs necessary for maximum efficiency. Explore key topics including prioritizing organizational structure, optimizing work schedules, implementing cross-training strategies, conducting comprehensive task inventories, and calculating staffing levels with precision.

INTRO TO SEALING & EXPUNGING RECORDS

In this afternoon session, you’ll learn what the law says about sealing and expunging records, as well as best practice for processing seal and expunge court orders.

Topics Included:

  • Overview of state law, processing court orders
  • Understanding the difference between a sealed and expunged record
  • Who has access to these records.
