Day 1

In the morning session, you will learn the standards the law sets for state and local agencies regarding what records must be released by law enforcement under the law. You’ll also learn what exemptions to release information the law allows, and the balance between the public’s right to know and an individual’s right to privacy.

In the afternoon session, review how to identify  information to redact from police reports, audio, video, juvenile, and traffic records following state law and which exemptions may apply beyond the closure of the case.

Day 2

This session will teach you about handling subpoenas and how they impact the release of departmental records, fees, and other requirements.
