March 11, 2027
8:30am – 4:00pm
Tisbury PD
Who should attend? Public records staff, Records Managers, PIOs, Command staff overseeing Records (all are welcome – the content is not specific to MA)
Today’s law enforcement agencies face increasing public scrutiny, rapidly evolving media demands, and heightened expectations for transparency. This training prepares records personnel, PIOs, supervisors, and other public safety professionals to confidently manage two challenging situations: interactions with First Amendment auditors and high-volume records requests during critical or high-profile incidents.
Participants will learn how to appropriately respond when individuals film law enforcement personnel or facilities, request records, or test agency practices, with an emphasis on legal compliance, de-escalation, professionalism, and risk reduction. The course also provides practical strategies for managing large volumes of sensitive public and media requests following significant incidents, including when to consider pre-emptive release, how to coordinate with command staff and investigators, and how to communicate effectively under intense time and public pressure.
Learn how to balance transparency with privacy, investigative integrity, and agency responsibilities while building a coordinated, defensible approach to some of today’s most demanding public-facing situations.
