    Day 1: Florida Public Records Law

    In this training session, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the application of Florida Public Records Law to law enforcement records.

    Topics include:

    • An overview of the Public Records Law
    • Distinctions between exempt and confidential records
    • The nuances of criminal investigative and intelligence information

    Morning Session: NIBRS/FIBRS Compliance

    This session provides law enforcement and records personnel with the tools and knowledge necessary to ensure incident reports meet both federal and state-level crime reporting standards. With a focus on quality control, NIBRS compliance, and FIBRS-specific rules, participants will learn how to review, correct, and approve reports accurately and efficiently.

    Topics include:

    • Elements of a complete police report:
    • Overview of NIBRS offenses and accurate NIBRS coding practices
    • NIBRS-specific reporting rules

    Afternoon Session: Sealing & Expunging Records 

    In this session, attendees learn what the law says about sealing and expunging records, as well as best practices for processing seal and expunge court orders. The course does not include step-by-step agency-specific procedure since the process is dependent upon system functionality and agency policy. It does however provide great insight into what these court orders involve, and how important they are.
