Who should attend? Anyone who manages government records and subpoenas for records
In this session, you will receive a comprehensive look at the Public Records Act and learn the standards the law sets for state and local agencies regarding what records must be released by law enforcement under the law. You’ll also learn what exemptions to releasing information the law allows, and the balance between the public’s right to know and an individuals’ right to privacy. You will also learn about handling subpoenas, how they impact the release of departmental records, fees, and other requirements.
Day 2: Records Risk, Liability & Reviewing & Approving Reports
MORNING SESSION: Eliminating Risk & Liability in Records
Who Should Attend? Records Managers, Records Supervisors, Compliance officers, Command Staff
Learn the inherent risks and liability that exist in Records and how to eliminate it. Attendees will participate in strategic risk analysis and prevention and learn how to implement the approaches needed to protect the agency. You’ll receive various resources/tools for agency- and self-assessment risk analysis, measuring key performance indicators, and keeping track of productivity.
AFTERNOON SESSION: Reviewing & Approving Reports
Who Should Attend?Records personnel, police supervisors, report review staff, and anyone involved in reviewing, approving, or correcting police reports.
Learn how to improve the police report review process through a clear, policy-driven approach to identifying, correcting, and documenting errors. This course helps agencies define roles and responsibilities for officers, supervisors, and records staff while building consistency, accountability, and transparency in report quality control to reduce risk and improve accuracy.
